Double zig-zag pattern

Honestly, I meant to make this blog a photo blog to show bracelets I’ve done over the years not as a friendship bracelet pattern resource. So please bear with me if patterns are not included in my posts. If you are resourceful, you can actually find a lot of friendship bracelet patterns online. One of several websites I frequently use is Heather’s Friendship Bracelets. To those who are familiar with the Klutz friendship bracelets, this webpage shows some of the patterns found in the Klutz book. For advanced friendship bracelet makers, Marina Ulmer sells beautiful friendship bracelet patterns for $1/pattern. Other websites you may find helpful are: Gloria’s Bracelet Page and Billy Bear 4 Kids.

Since several people requested for the double zigzag pattern, here’s my attempt to make it. I hope it’s easy enough to follow.

Double Zig-zag pattern

You’ll need 2 different colors of thread, 40″ each. For the purpose of this pattern, we’ll say four 40″ blue thread and six 40″ yellow threads.

Arrange threads in this manner: (The threads are parted in such a way to illustrate the 5 threads that will make the left and right zig-zags)
double zig zag threads

Legend: Y=Yellow, B=Blue

  1. First, you’ll be working on the right zig-zag of the double zig-zag. Starting with the 5th string from right (Y), make four forward double knots.
  2. Do the same with the next four strings until you create a diagonal stripe with Y, B, Y, B, Y pattern.
  3. To create the zig-zag, create four backward knots using the rightmost string (Y).
  4. Do step 3 four more times with the succeeding strings to create the same Y, B, Y, B, Y pattern.
  5. Now, work on the left zig-zag. Take the 5th string from left and create four backward knots.
  6. Do step 5 four more times using the succeeding strings to create Y, B, Y, B, Y pattern.
  7. Create four forward knots with the leftmost string (Y).
  8. Repeat step 7 four more times.
  9. To join the left and right zig-zags, make a double knot using the two strings in the middle (5th and 6th strings).
  10. Repeat steps 1 through 9 until the desired length.
  11. Tie your bracelet and cut the remaining strings.

Bordered zig-zag pattern

Coral snake pattern

2 50-inch brown strings
2 40-inch black strings
1 40-inch yellow string
2 40-inch red strings

Legend: L=left, R=right

Arrange the strings so that they are in this order:
coral snake pattern

  1. Starting with string #1, knot a turnaround stitch (L-to-R, R-to-L) around string #2 to make the L border.
  2. Make regular double knots with string #2 onto strings 3, 4, 5, and 6.
  3. With thread #7, knot a turnaround stitch (R-to-L, L-to-R) onto string #2 (which is now the string adjacent to #7). This is the right border.
  4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 until you reach string #6 (the last red string), making sure you knot a turnaround stitch at the end of each four regular double knots.
  5. Throughout steps 1-4, you knotted going from L to R, after the last red string or the 6th string in the illustration above you will now knot from R to L.
  6. You will basically do the same thing, but in the opposite direction. With string #7, knot a turnaround stitch onto its adjacent string.
  7. Make four double knots with the 2nd string from R onto 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th.
  8. Make a turnaroud knot.
  9. Then repeat the entire process until the desired length.

Notes

  1. Dont forget to tie a turnaroud knot at the end of every four rows of regular double knots. The turnaround knots create the border.
  2. In this pattern, the coral snake zigzags at reds and blacks.
